  1. When I was in junior high I was fascinated by Egypt and the sun god Ra. I know that Egypt is the Mother of all Societies and is historically amazing. I look forward to visiting and cruising the Nile!

  2. I have a similar view to the above comment. I loved learning about the pyramids and ancient pharaohs. Although I must admit that I know very little about modern Egypt.

  3. My guess is that the image of Egypt by most Americans is that it is land steeped in ancient history and heavily identified with its landforms (e.g., the Nile, the desert). My guess is that it would also be strongly identified by its status as a primarily Muslim nation, but less so than by its history. Iconic images of Egypt would be camels, sphynxes, deserts, the Nile, and pyramids.

People who have visited Egypt are well aware of the hospitality and general friendliness of the Egyptians.

There is also a general perception among more educated Americans that the current government is highly corrupt and that this is unfortunate.

Much of Egypt's political history in the 20th century (Sadat, etc.) seems to have receded from the consciousness of Americans.
